A new post?!

I've had a few people recently tell me "we've noticed you haven't updated your blog lately..." (or some similar sentiment).  I know, I'm sorry! It had been a few weeks, then a month, then two months, then I didn't even know what to write about because I had let it go for so long.  Then I began wondering, does anyone even read it? and apparently at least a couple of you do.  Thanks!  I'll try to concisely fill you in on the happenings of our lives since Oct. 31 (my last post).  Almost three months ago...wow, sorry.  1/4 of a year--oops!

The holidays have passed and we've been blessed to see many of our close family members.  The main two that we have missed and need to see soon are Mr. H's sister and nephew.  They are so dear to us and we didn't get to see them over the holidays--that needs to be fixed in a very timely manner.

With the passing of New Years, Mr. H and I kept our commitment from last year to write in our yearly journal.  We write the most important happenings from the closing year and some goals/thoughts for the upcoming year.  Our overwhelming thought for 2011: don't be complacent.  We now have jobs, we have a house, we are settling down and don't want to become boring, old married people.  We still want to travel, we want to do things that make us happy, we want to be spontaneous, and we don't want to get lost in the daily grind.  If you have any tips or suggestions in this department, a comment would be great  :)
My 8th grades have had one snow day so far this year (just last week actually) and I enjoyed the extra sleep and crafting time.  Speaking of crafting time, the light at the end of the tunnel with the two-year-old blanket I've been working on is getting much brighter!  All of the hexagons are now crocheted and I've begun the task of pieces them together.  As soon as I get it done I'll post some pictures.  Now, I'm not proud of the fact that it has taken me a little over two years to get to this point, but maybe by announcing that to the world I'll give myself a little kick in the right directions.  In my defense, the last two years have been pretty eventful (and the recipient of the blanket is fairly tall and wants plenty of blanket to curl up under)!  I have gotten engaged, planned a wedding and gotten married, written an Honors Thesis, graduated with two bachelors degrees, graduated again with a Masters degree, moved twice, and gotten a teaching job.  A little slack, please...

In our home we have an office/hobby room.  I've been getting the itch to re-decorate my little craft corner of the space.  But I have no idea what to do.  I love looking at pictures of craft rooms and thinking what I might be able to do in my little niche, but ultimately I would love a more artistic eye to come in and tell me "do this, this, and this."  I just have so much trouble making design decisions and pulling the commitment trigger.

Here a sad and sorry picture of my little corner.  I didn't even tidy up for the photo op.  This area needs to hold my crafting supplies, sewing machine, and also computer.  I think there is potential here...maybe...

Now of course online there are multiple rooms that just make my mouth water, such as the one below...

But there are also some more do-able spaces.  Ones that are a little smaller and might have executable features...

I do have that one shelving unit behind my desk, but I just love the look of larger pieces that go nearly to the ceiling.  I might invest in a larger storage unit, or maybe just find shelves and create decorative ways to extend the look a little higher.  I have no idea...  Here would be the perfect time for that decorative person I mentioned earlier to say, "buy this and that and put them together in this way..."  Oh well, I guess I'll have to figure this out on my own.

We'll see how far I get towards my crafting-corner dream.  Ideas? Pointers? Please pass them along!

I don't know how concise I was or how much I just rambled about decor, but here it is-- a new post.  Thanks for reading!

Oh my gosh, I checked and there was a new post. It is a miracle, haha! I do like to check to see what is new with you and Matt. So, thanks for the update. Since I am not very design oriented I will leave the suggestions for your crafty corner to others! Love you, Aunt Sharon
